Hannes NickNick Hannes (born in 1974), is an independent photojournalist based in Antwerp, Belgium. After completing his photography studies at the Academy of Arts in Ghent, he specialised in social-political documentary photography, first in the Balkans, later on in the Middle East and currently in the former Soviet Union. Since 1997, he regularly visits Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria, to continue his work on “Forbidden People”, a story about the Kurds. “Wrong time, wrong place”, a project commissioned by the Museum of Photography in Antwerp, illustrates the depressing and inhumane asylum procedure for refugees in Belgium.
